Halloween Special - The Haunting Creative Writing
A group of friends find themselves trapped in an old hotel, only to suffer strange lucid dreams and terrifying nightly visitations. Will they escape or go insane? And what is the significance of the black rose?

The scenario:
You and a group of friends take a spin out of town in your new sports car. At first you are enjoying the night air and freedom of the road, but then a heavy fog suddenly descends
Passing along a dark and dreary wood, you suddenly see a woman covered in blood appear along the main road. You swerve to avoid her and crash into a tree.
Fortunately, everyone is well, but it becomes apparent that all is not what it seems…
You are pursued through the woods by what seems to you to be an angry, crazed mob.
Through the woods you and your friends discover an abandoned school. You immediately enter to take shelter from the encroaching hordes. Can you survive? What will happen next?

Zombie Apocalypse in New York

The scenario:
It starts out as a cool trip to New York City with friends - the vibe, the jazz scene and the shopping, but then it happens…
The clouds darken and an eerie silence descends. Something is brewing in the air. Something abnormal.
Streaks in the sky follow an unnerving thunderstorm and you pass the night restlessly.
In the morning you awake to find everything has changed. The city is surrounded by the walking dead and seemingly there is no way out.
If there is a slim chance it lies in fighting your way out of the hotel in search of a lone motorcycle. Weaving your way out of the city seems the only way forward. But this is a slim chance. Can you make it against the odds?

Reading Assessment Lessons (Suitable for Y6-11, KS2/3/4)
Two reading assessment lessons, suitable for Y6-11 based on autobiography extracts from Karl Pilkington and Jessica Ennis.
First lesson (Karl Pilkington) is a full lesson practise assessment, based on a shorter extract, taking students through how to answer a typical writing assessment task. This lesson is made up of:
* A starter task

* A dictionary definition task
* Spider diagram of what to look for during an analysis
* Reading of the text prompts
* Reading review
The text in this extract is a humours extract based on Karl Pilkington’s school days.
The second lesson is the ‘official’ writing assessment where students are on their own in test conditions, with simply the test question and resource page.
The text in this extract is an emotive piece based on Jessica Ennis’ early school life in which she endured bullying.
Download should take two complete lessons, based on one hour per lesson.
